Radiesse®
Most dermal fillers are made with a naturally occurring substance called hyaluronic acid (HA). Radiesse® is made with calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA), which is stiffer than HA gel fillers and therefore provides good support in areas such as the nasolabial folds, chin, and jawline. So, what sets Radiesse® apart from HA fillers? Collagen is one of the most essential components of firm and healthy skin. The calcium hydroxylapatite solution in Radiesse® helps your body produce more collagen for results that only get better over time. This means treatment with Radiesse® will continue to work after your initial procedure is over.
Radiesse® has recently become one of the only FDA-approved dermal fillers to be used in the hands as a means to add volume and youthfulness. The CaHa acts as a scaffold to support your skin’s weakened structure and promote new collagen. Over a span of 2-3 years post injection, the CaHa is completely metabolized while new collagen grows in its place. The effects of Radiesse® when used in the hands, can be seen immediately and can last 9-15 months.
Radiesse® has also proven to be effective in helping with neck rejuvenation. Your provider will determine if you are a good candidate and the number of treatments needed. Typically, one syringe of Radiesse® would be injected in the neck area with a recommendation of two treatments, spaced one month apart.
What can I expect?
One of the biggest advantages of Radiesse® is that it requires virtually no downtime. You can get treatment in the morning or afternoon and return to work the same day. You can also resume normal exercise the following day. Possible side effects of Radiesse® include temporary bruising, swelling, redness, itch and possible discomfort from the injection. Depending on the treatment area and amount of product used, Radiesse® can last between one year and 14 months.
