You can tell a lot about a person by his or her eyes. Growing up, my mom used to always be able to tell when I was sick based on how my eyes looked. Sadness, excitement, fear, humor…all of these states of mind can be discovered by others just by the look in your eyes.

Most of us are our own worst critics. As I looked in the mirror closely a couple of weeks ago, I started seeing lines around my eyes that used to not be there. I know 34 isn’t old, but, let’s just say that I’m starting to get concerned about where my skin is headed. I know that I am not going to be wrinkle-free forever, but I’m doing everything in my power to stay looking as youthful as possible for as long as possible.

With it being summertime and me being in the profession that I am, I always consider what I like to call “sun woes.” We all love sun, hands down, and there are certain health benefits to being in the sun for an appropriate amount of time. With that being said, let’s think about what happens to our eyes when we are out in it for a long period of time. If you’re thinking what I’m thinking, it’s this: we squint. In the name of shielding the eyes from damage, those little muscles around the eyes tighten up as much as they can without closing the eye, which causes those crevices that we all despise.

Am I without hope? No! This is where my little friend named Botox comes into play. When injected into the skin, this FDA approved product which we get straight from Allergan starts to work its magic by relaxing the tiny muscles that like to tense up. As the muscles relax, the lines fade. It’s as simple as that!
